"Zombieland 2" Is Finally Moving Forward

Sony has hired Dave Callaham to write a script for "Zombieland 2."

It's been five years since Zombieland hit theatres, but Sony still hasn't forgotten about its $75 million domestic success. Dave Callaham has been hired to pen Zombieland 2, several sources have confirmed. His previous writing credits include this year's Godzilla and 2010's The Expendables

You may remember the failed Zombieland pilot Amazon filmed and ultimately passed on. Rhett Reese, who wrote the original film, said diehard Zombieland fans "hated it out of existence."

Those same fans will be crucial to Zombieland 2 avoiding its own doom. If rumors of director Ruben Fleischer coming back in the same role are true, it'll certainly help the sequel's chances. And bringing back some of the original cast won't hurt either.

There's still plenty of moves to be made, so we'll have our eyes on how it all turns out. Sony obviously has reinvigorated sense of urgency.
