5 People Shot at NYC West Indian Parade, Leaving 1 Dead and 4 Wounded

Five people were shot at the New York City West Indian Parade, leaving one dead and four wounded.

Today's West Indian Day Parade got off to a bad start before it could even officially begin. At least five people were shot at 3:30 a.m. in Crown Heights, leaving one dead and four wounded. The man killed has been identified as a 55-year-old man, although his name hasn't been released. An unidentified police vehicle was also hit by a bullet, shattering glass onto a detective.

The NYPD arrested a 26-year-old suspect, whom Police Commissioner William Bratton called a "career criminal."

There was more trouble in J'Ouvert, a traditional pre-parade festivity, as some partiers decided to kick and punch a passing NYPD patrol car before jumping on top of the car and reportedly dancing on top of it. You can catch video of the incident above.
