During a Reddit AMA, star of Super Troopers Jay Chandrasekhar revealed that the sequel of the 2001 classic is in the works, but with a caveat: it will be funded by its fans via Kickstarter.
“We’ll have an update in a couple of months,” Chandrasekhar said, adding that they hope to begin shooting this winter. Fox had previously told Chandrasekhar and the rest of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe that they’d be willing to distribute the movie, but did not want to pay for any of it.
Given the success of Veronica Mars and others, though, the model of crowd funding a movie clearly works. And you know that the intensely devoted fans of Super Troopers would have no problem pulling together enough money for one more round of “littering and…”
