Exclusive Clip: "I Am Ali" Shows a Side of the Legend You Didn't Know

Muhammad Ali was much more than a legendary boxer. This documentary tells his full, real story.

Everyone knows about Muhammad Ali the boxer—the fights, the slogans, the posters, the Will Smith movie—but as it goes with every legend, there's a lot more to the story behind the artist formerly known as Cassius Clay.

I Am Ali, with the boxer's personal audio journals and in-depth interviews with his family, seeks to truly uncover the man behind the myth. Who was he when he wasn't knocking down George Foreman in the jungle? The clip above offers a little taste into the documentary's behind-the-scenes approach, as Ali's daughter, Maryum Ali, talks about his devotion to family and to cultivating a personal community of his own.

"He wasn't a perfect person," Ali admits, but his imperfections make him who he really was and paint a fuller picture in a way that the legend storytelling can't.

I Am Ali is in theaters and on demand on Oct. 10. Check out the clip above, then peep the full trailer below.
