The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have confirmed the first case of the ebola virus has been diagnosed in the United States.

The person in question is currently in isolation at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, where he/she is being treated after presenting with symptoms and a travel history consistent with someone who could contract the deadly disease. While the disease has been highly contagious and is ravaging West Africa, Dallas County Health and Human Services director Zachary Thompson says we are not at a huge risk in the United States.

“The key point,” he said, “is, if there’s been no transmission, blood, secretion, any type of bodily fluids by the infected person to someone else, then [the risk of others being infected] is low to none.”

We’ll provide more updates as we get them, and the CDC will be holding a press conference at 5:30 P.M.
