People have taken to calling The Nick the “CBGB of the South.” The biggest difference between this venerable Southern rock venue and the legendary New York club, of course, is that The Nick is still open. Though the club is housed in a cramped former convenience store that has a maximum capacity of 250 people, a host of rock and roll greats have graced the stage. The Black Crowes and Jane’s Addiction are just two rock legends who have played the venue.

If you’re just looking for a neighborhood bar where regulars pass their time, The Nick opens to a tamer crowd 3 p.m. daily until the night’s music begins. Co-owner Pam Stalling spoke to the loyalty folks have to The Nick in an interview with AL.com. She said, “A lot of the happy-hour people are former night-time customers that are older with families and responsibilities that they didn't have in their younger Nick days. A lot of the others have been customers longer than The Nick has been there.”
