Former Cop Who Tried to Violate Woman with Firearm Has Gun Rights Reinstated

More proof that Georgia's gun laws are alarming.

If you aren't already familiar with Georgia's ridiculous gun laws, you should read up. Perhaps then you'll be less than shocked by how they benefited former cop and convicted rapist Dennis Krauss

According to Think Progress, Krauss, a former Glynn County police officer, was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman at a motel in 1999. Specifically, he was summoned to her home by a distress call after she claimed her husband hit her. Instead of arresting the man, Krauss offered the woman a ride, where he proceeded to threaten her with arrest unless she had sex with him. Citing court documents, Think Progress said Krauss actually told the woman "[we] can go to the motel or you can go to jail." At the motel, Krauss expressed his disturbing desire to "anally penetrate [the victim] with the gun," and proceeded to have sex with her before driving her home.

Despite the repugnant nature of his actions, the resulting conviction, and additional charges for harassment and assault, he was granted the right to carry a firearm again last July thanks to the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles. As Think Progress points out, he's part of a large group of bad company who had the same rights returned to them:

According to a Journal-Constitution tally, he is one of 358 violent felons who regained these rights over a six year period. That includes 32 violent felons who killed someone, and 44 who committed sex crimes. A
