There was a lot of buzz last weekend about Nick Cannon’s hairstyle at the BET Awards, and now we may have our answer as to why he looked the way he did.

Cannon told TMZ Live that he was doing it for the role of Richard Pryor in a biopic about the comedy legend written by Lee Daniels. Yes, Nick Cannon may be playing one of the most famous names in the history of comedy in what would be one of the most anticipated biopics of all-time.

This is what Cannon had to say:

“Here’s the thing. There have been a lot of people out there who’ve discussed playing this role. I never want to jinx anything because you guys know how movies work. If it’s not in production, it’s not real. So all I’ll say is that I’m doing the work right now. I’m doing everything that I need to do to embody it when the opportunity is right.”

So does that mean he has the part and they’re waiting for the movie to get green-lit? Or he’s working on his Pryor look just to get noticed? Perhaps it’s sort of purposely ambiguous.

All we can say is, please don’t let it be Nick Cannon. We enjoyed Love Don’t Cost a Thing as much as anyone, but this just isn’t right.
