Can Microsoft improve their Japanese sales with the Xbox One?

The Xbox's presence in Japan has always been middling compared to consoles from Nintendo and Sony. Microsoft understands this better than anyone as they move into the Japanese launch phase for the Xbox One. The console will be released September 4 in Japan, and as Microsoft looks ahead to this release, Xbox head Phil Spencer shared some words yesterday about the forthcoming launch:

@samwose We will be in Japan in September. Japan hasn't always been the easiest market for us, will be good to launch and be at TGS.

The loyalty that Japanese audiences have displayed toward Sony and Nintendo is undeniable. But is it unshakeable? Spencer and Microsoft hope that this isn't the case as they gear up for the Xbox One's Japanese debut. Currently, the PlayStation 4 has a major lead in the current console war. With a boatload of hot exclusives on the way, Nintendo figures to finally gain traction for the Wii U. Where does Microsoft fit into this picture? We'll find out soon.
