It doesn't take a genius to see that despite recent efforts, Microsoft is still trailing pretty far behind Sony in its overtures to court new indie developers to the triple-A centric Xbox One. But one of the biggest feathers in their caps is a Contra-esque shooter called Cuphead, which mesmerizingly looks like a 1930's cartoon playable with a controller. And now the developers have announced the game, despite being a ways off, is intended to be the first of a trilogy.
In a recent post over at Kill Screen, it was reported that the developers, brothers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, have plans to fill out the initial game with expansions of sorts, that would add additional functionality on from the game's weapons and overall design. Cuphead is apparently also going to be fixated on boss battles, which makes sense, given what was shown off during this year's brief E3 trailer.
Interestingly, Cuphead is being developed with art and animation in mind first, from which ideas for the game's design then come from (not unlike the PS4's upcoming and equally-artistic Hohokum). That's great news for aesthetics fans, but it also probably means the game won't be coming out any time soon.
As it stands, Cuphead is slated to release sometime during 2015 for both Xbox One and PC.
