If there is one role Bill Murray nails every time, it is the curmudgeon with a heart of gold. You have to spend much of the movie waiting for him to redeem himself, but he always does.

This trailer for St. Vincent features a classic Murray performance in a role perfectly suited for him. When he discovers he’s broke, Murray takes it upon himself to become the babysitter for his new neighbor (Melissa McCarthy)’s son, and the two form a bond as Murray mentors his new friend in the predictable cinematic tropes of bullying, drinking, and horseracing.

Murray also is apparently pals with a Russian stripper who may also be a prostitute (or “lady of the night,” as he calls her), played by Naomi Watts. Maybe that’s why he’s broke?

The trailer is above, and this film from Ted Melfi will be released October 24.
