The new feature-length documentary produced by Zach Braff, Video Games: The Movie, is set to drop in theaters and online on July 15.

The movie was publicly funded which earned Scrubs star Zach Braff and Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski producer credits with their large donations. Narrated by Lord of the Rings' star Sean Astin, it follows the history of the video game industry and how it eventually become a multi-billion dollar business.

Both Braff and Bleszinski dropped $10,000 on the crowdfunding campaign but it's uncertain just how much input they actually have. However Blesinski is said to have landed interviews with “industry legends” including Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, Deus Ex director Warren Spector and Atari founder Nolan Bushnell among others.

Video Game: The Movie drops on July 15 on iTunes, the official website and in select theaters.
