Suspicious Package Triggers Evacuation of Penn Station

Service on the Long Island Railroad was temporarily suspended.

Penn Station was evacuated in New York City after a suspicious package was spotted, authorities say.

The Associated Press reports that an MTA spokesman said the train station was evacuated this evening after the package was noticed around 10 p.m. After about an hour, police concluded their investigation and the station was reopened.

During that hour, LIRR service between Penn Station and Jamaica, Queens was suspended. Delays should be expected as a result of the closure.
