Bryan Cranston, halfway to EGOT status thanks to his Tony Award win last night and his multiple Emmys for Breaking Bad, is potentially making a surprising move back to television.
After both Cranston and All The Way won Tonys last night, Deadline is reporting that talks between Steven Spielberg All The Way's playwright Robert Schenkkan to turn the show into a miniseries have intensified. Cranston would be attached to reprise his role as President Lyndon Johnson, and the show would be presented in a miniseries format that begins with the Kennedy Assassination and continues through LBJ's first year in office.
Schenkkan has actually written a second LBJ-themed play, this one entitled The Great Society. It will be making its debut this July at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and it is not clear yet if that will also be included in the potential miniseries.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that Spielberg instead elects to turn it into a movie. If he does, we can really start the Bryant Cranston EGOT Watch in earnest.
