Six Climbers Reported Dead at Washington's Mount Rainier

After being reported missing on Friday, six climbers have reportedly died after falling from Washington state's Mount Rainier, officials say. 

The Seattle Times reports that the climbers fell 3,300 feet off a steep slope. Furthermore, the National Park Service says a rescue team discovered "tents and clothes, mixed with rock and ice" on the Carbon Glacier at 9,500 feet.

The climbers, a combination of four clients and two guides, made the journey with Seattle's Alpine Ascents International earlier this week. They hadn't been heard from since around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, and the company reached out to park rangers when the group didn't return on Friday as originally planned. 

Officials are calling this the worst disaster at the at Mount Rainier since 11 climbers were killed by an avalanche in June 1981. Last night, Mount Rainier National Park Superintendent Randy King delivered a statement on the tragedy:
