During a 10-minute delay at the South Ferry terminal, subway conductor Mike Conklin stepped out of his booth to join some buskers for an impromptu Sam Cooke singalong.
According to the Daily News, Conklin is known as a talented singer by his co-workers and has long shared a love of classic soul from Aretha Franklin to Marvin Gaye. He was raised by a single mother on the Upper West Side and Harlem, who took him to see James Brown at the Apollo Theater as a kid.
Conklin may not share the stage with the singers he loved growing up, but at least he made what could have been an annoyance to commuters an experience to savor.
