Robert Downey Jr. is working with Showtime to create a drama based in the 1980s and centered on a rehab center in California. Downey’s production team is driving the development process, with the script being written by Gary Lennon (Orange Is the New Black,Justified).

According to Deadline, “the untitled drama is set in 1983 and follows a rehab/therapeutic community in Venice Beach where drugs and alcohol have always been part of the local culture.”

No word yet on timeline, casting, or specific plot points beyond the above description, so this one is probably a ways away from coming to fruition. Given Downey’s past, though, it’s a fair bet he’ll have many interesting experiences to draw from in creating the show.
