The 4th of July is less than a week away, which means the NYPD is coming for those illegal fireworks you plan to fire in celebration.

As the Daily Intellingencer mentions, New York has had a ban on fireworks since 1940. Yesterday, police posted a message on Facebook championing the efforts of their Organized Crime Control Bureau, which hunts people who buy and sell them in and out of state.

NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said that "anyone" caught with fireworks for any purpose runs the risk of being arrested because not only are they illegal, they're dangerous. A perfect example of this zero tolerance policy is the seizure of $3,000 worth of fireworks after following a group from Pennsylvania to a Queens warehouse.

So, basically, they're not fucking around. Have a fun and safe holiday.
