New Legislation Aims to Curb Rise of Heroin Use in New York

Governor Cuomo signed new legislation into law that aims to curb heroin use.

In case you haven't heard, the '90s are back! That means crop tops, Boy Meets World spin-offs, and grunge's favorite drug: heroin.

But while ill-conceived sitcom reboots may be a bummer, heroin is once again turning into an actual health crisis in the U.S. Which is why, today, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed into a law 11 different bills aimed at curbing heroin's resurgence.

According to CBS New York, "The measures include provisions requiring insurance companies to consistently cover treatment for addiction, funding for public awareness of drug use and funding for more New York state troopers to investigate heroin trafficking."

To put things into perspective, heroin-related overdoses have increased from 215 in 2008 to 478 in 2012. Don't do drugs, kids. But if you must, do ones that aren't heroin.
