Extremists reportedly opened fire on a group of worshippers and burned four churches in a Nigerian village near the site where hundreds of schoolgirls were abducted in the spring.

According to the Associated Press, Islamic extremists are suspected in the attack in Kwada which killed "scores" of people, prompting others to seek refuge in the bushes for safety. The Associated Press adds that authorities have not been able to confirm the attack because poor communications have prevented them from accessing the security post in Chibok.

Boko Haram, who kidnapped the nearly 300 girls in April, are keeping them captive until the Nigerian government releases incarcerated members. The group is also suspected in the recent abduction of nearly 100 women and children, as well as a bombing that killed over 20 people in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, on Wednesday.
