The NYPD has charged a man with a hate crime for allegedly attacking Donald Sterling's ex-girlfriend, V. Stiviano, over the weekend.

According to the New York Post, 40-year-old Old Bethpage, Long Island resident Dominick Diorio has been accused of punching Stiviano in the face and hurling racial slurs at her in front of the Meatpacking District's Gansevoort Hotel on Sunday after he and a friend recognized her from the Sterling scandal. Stiviano was not seriously injured in the attack.

The Post adds that passersby came to Stiviano's defense, leaving the intoxicated Diorio bleeding on the sidewalk where police discovered him.

Stiviano filed a complaint on Monday, and was able to select Diorio from a police lineup yesterday. In addition to the charge for assault as a hate crime, he also faces a harassment charge.
