With a very impressive directorial resume, Michelle MacLaren was bound to get a deal from somebody eventually.

That finally came from HBO today, who signed MacLaren to a two-year exclusive first-look contract. She’s already done quite a bit of work for the network, directing four episodes of Game of Thrones and an episode of the upcoming series The Leftovers.

Prior to her work with HBO, MacLaren worked side-by-side with Vince Gilligan on Breaking Bad. She served as a producer for the final three seasons and directed 11 episodes in all, including this past season’s To'hajiilee, which culminated with the standoff in the desert between Hank, Gomez, and the neo-Nazis and is regarded as one of the series’ best episodes.

She shared the Emmy for Best Drama in 2013 along with Gilligan, and has twice been nominated for her directing work. With a CV like this, the only question we can ask is: what took someone so long to hire her?

MacLaren is definitely a name to watch out for in the months ahead.
