Over the weekend, a band of fisherman caught a baby great white shark in Queens. There some things you just don't expect to see in New York City, and a shark is one of them. Rats? Yes. Sharks? Not so much.

According to DNAinfo, Steve Fernandez were in the waters off of Rockaway Beach on Sunday when they saw the great white, which was roughly 10-feet long, about a mile off the beach. Fernandez, 29, told DNAinfo that he'd seen sharks "off shore," but never as close as this particular shark came.

"There's no magical fence that keeps them off the beach," he added. "They swim wherever they want to go."

After reeling the 80-pound shark in, Fernandez and his friends followed National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration guidelines and released it. He remains elated by the experience: "I've caught bigger sharks, but that was the coolest."
