Here’s what we know about Trolls:

  • It will be a computer-animated musical comedy
  • It tells the “origin story” of where the ubiquitous dolls’ crazy-colored hair comes from
  • According to The Wrap, Anna Kendrick has signed on to play Poppy, a “relentlessly upbeat” troll who is the main character in the story

Yes, yes, and yes. Kendrick is a fantastic choice given her musical background and inability to take herself too seriously. Director Mike Mitchell agrees, saying in the studio’s Kendrick announcement:

“Anna has proven herself to be a brilliant actress with an amazing singing voice. She'll inject Poppy with the exact mix of spirit, sass and song that will no doubt give a whole new life to the iconic Troll dolls.”

"Spirit, sass, and song" fits Kendrick perfectly, and between this and Pitch Perfect 2, we should be getting plenty of singing Anna onscreen in the coming years.
