It all started on Reddit, when someone asked Will Ferrell about his resemblance to Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, who basically looks like Will Ferrell with a backwards hat and slightly beadier beady eyes.

That's when Ferrell revealed the truth: "A lot of people think that it's me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith."

Chad Smith, being a separate human being, was obviously not pleased. So he challenged Ferrell to a drum battle through Instagram, setting the prize at one golden cowbell.

This back and forth as been going on for months, but now it's finally going to really happen, May 22 on The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon announced Thursday.

"It could become the beginning of a rivalry that will go on until the end of time," Ferrell told Rolling Stone.

"We're going to have a drum-off to see who the real Chad Smith is," Smith told the magazine. "I'm all for it. But unless Will's been practicing or is secretly a crazy, wild drummer, I think it'll be evident right off the bat who the real Chad Smith is."

Ferrel is obviously taking a more relaxed approach, saying "I have not been practicing,There's no amount of practice that would help me become a good drummer."

Now c'mon, that's just not true.
