Snapchat introduced a text and video messaging feature to its app this week that is proving popular already. The video part of the update is reportedly being powered by AddLive, a software company Snapchat bought for an undisclosed amount several months ago.

AddLive, which previously provided business-to-business communication tools, describes itself as allowing "companies to quickly deploy real-time communications with minimal development time." Snapchat had, smartly, been searching for a company to execute the addition of video communication to its app.

"We are excited to welcome the AddLive team to the Snapchat family. We have no further comment at this time," Snapchat told The Verge, confirming the acquisition.
