This video tells the story of 6-year-old Ryland Whittington, who was born deaf. After receiving cochlear implants at 19-months-old, Ryland eventually learned to hear and speak. This brought forth a revelation: Despite being born with the anatomy of a female, Ryland identified as a boy. Following extensive research, Ryland's parents reached the same conclusion the experts they consulted—Ryland is transgender.

Ryland's loving parents helped him make the gender transition as rapidly as they could, and he spoke at the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast in San Diego last week. Ryland's family hopes that sharing their son's story will help create a more tolerant and welcoming world for the entire LGBTQ community.
