In a combined announcement with Saban Brands this morning, Lionsgate delivered some news that conjured up the joyous childhood memories of 20-somethings everywhere: Power Rangers is coming back to the big screen.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in the statement that, “the Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years,” then boldly proclaimed that “today they are more powerful than ever.”

As for what the plot of the movie may be, it’s as of yet unclear. However, in an interview with Complex last summer with Jason David Frank (i.e., Tommy Oliver, the White/Green Ranger) indicated that we might be getting a green ranger-centric, PG-13 story.

There has not been a Power Rangers film since 1997, so there should be plenty of fresh material to draw from. Time will tell on the exact details, but one thing’s for sure: no matter what this movie ends up being, it better have Zordon and Alpha-5 prominently involved.
