The first trailer for John Mulaney’s new sitcom, Mulaney, has hit the web, and it looks like the show is going to try and bring some of that Seinfeld magic back to TV. Mulaney, an SNL alum, stars as a stand-up comic trying to make it in the business, while also balancing an eccentric group of friends that are mostly seen hanging around his apartment. Sounds familiar, right? Well it should, because no matter how hard they try to distance themselves from it, Mulaney will always draw Seinfeld comparisons.

In addition to a supporting cast of young comedic actors like Seaton Smith and Nasim Pedrad, Mulaney also stars veteran comic Martin Short as John’s boss. There is too much talent here for Mulaney to be a bust, but it’s getting harder for traditional sitcoms to succeed in today’s TV environment.

We’ll see if Mulaney can rise above those issues when it debuts on Fox in the fall.
