The East Village's famed Mars Barclosed in July 2011, eventually giving way to a TD Bank. How anti-fucking-climactic and typical. But fans of its wonderfully dingy aesthetic will be glad to know that it may return in some capacity.

Owner Frank Penza told Bedford + Bowery that the bar "[is] going to reopen," and Gothamist adds that it's on Community Board 3's May 12 agenda. The biggest question is what, exactly, will the 6,000-square-foot space be? "We have to decide all that," Penza said, adding that "it’ll be much different than the other place."

Regardless, the spirit of Mars Bar lives on.
