“The fact that you’re leaving really sucks balls.”

And with that quote, Louis C.K. made television history.

Appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman, C.K. was ostensibly there to promote his show in his own unique style. He described the show’s star (himself) as having a “stupid face,” and talked about how much he enjoyed everything about the show except the acting part.

He then offered David Letterman the job as the lead on Louie, considering that at the end of this year Letterman will be giving up his chair to new host Stephen Colbert. It was in this context that C.K. uttered the aforementioned words, upon which Letterman then claimed “no one on this program either over at NBC or here has ever used the expression ‘sucks balls.’”

Letterman has been the host of the show for 32 years, so we’ll take his word for it.
