How's this for an amazing rumor? According to a report from Nerdist, Jessica Chastain was offered a lead role in the upcoming second season of HBO's True Detective, though she apparently has yet to accept. If this is true...

It's not really that farfetched a rumor, when you think about it: Chastain is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood at the moment, and series creator Nic Pizzolatto did express interest in casting female leads for the second season. According to Nerdist, who seems to be the primary source of this report, they reached out to Chastain's representatives and have not yet received a comment.

Chastain's the second big name that's been rumored to lead True Detective season two: Brad Pitt's name has also been mentioned as a possible contender, but nothing has been confirmed about that either. For the record, we totally support a Chastain casting—like we sort of/kind of/totally predicted all the way back in March...Chastain and Chiwetel Ejiofer would make a cool detective duo. HINT, HINT, HBO.

We'll have more info on this story as it becomes available.
