FIFA Is Trying to Takedown Twitter Accounts That Have the World Cup Logo as Their Avatar

FIFA is trying to use DCMA takedowns to get Twitter accounts in trouble if they're using the World Cup logo as their avatar.

Are you a World Cup fan? Be careful how you show it, especially if you're on Twitter.

FIFA is reportedly issuing DCMA copyright complaints for Twitter users who have their avatar set to the World Cup logo. The takedown notices, posted by Chilling Effects, show the complaints submitted by FIFA by way of an online form, which include the offending user's handle accompanied by details of the infringement.

The document includes six Twitter accounts that were targeted, all for the same reason of using the logo as their avatar. A few accounts have already changed their avatars, either voluntarily or forcefully (their new avatars are now the default Twitter egg.) One account, which still has the logo up, has about 80,000 followers.

So just tweet your love instead of proclaiming it with a profile picture, for now.
