According to Entertainment Weekly, NBC has given a series order to the DC adaptation Constantine for the 2014-2015 TV season. The series will follow the exploits of John Constantine (Matt Ryan), a supernatural con-man who defends our world from the dark forces that wish to take it over.

The series will be based on the comic Hellblazer from Vertigo, as well as the new Constantine title from DC. The property was also adapted into a movie in 2005, starring Keanu Reeves. The pilot for the series was directed by Neil Marshall, who was also behind the famous “Blackwater” episode of Game of Thrones. If you need any more convincing that Constantine is a show to keep your eye on, here is the official description of the series:

Before long, it’s revealed that Liv’s “second sight” — an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences — is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.
