Popular Chicago restaurant Hot Doug's (3324 North California Ave.) will close its doors in the fall, according to the owner.

DNAinfo Chicago reports the Doug Sohn confirmed the sad news today, which came after he left a message on the hot dog spot's website about a "permanent vacation." When DNAinfo asked him about it, he simply said "It's time to do something else," noting that the restaurant will shut down on Oct. 3.

"There really is no overwhelming reason other than it's time to go do something else," he explained. "The plan is not to own a restaurant anymore."

Sohn said he hasn't figured out what the "something else" is, but wouldn't completely rule out the possibility of Hot Doug's making a triumphant return. In the meantime, fans should enjoy the final five months of the restaurant operating as is.
