Authorities in India are finally allowing an NYPD officer to leave the country after dropping a case for weapons charges against him.

The Associated Press reports that officer Manny Encarnacion was arrested while visiting his wife in New Dehli in March after three bullets were found inside of his luggage at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The 49-year-old, who maintained that the bullets were accidentally left inside of a jacket pocket following a firing range visit, had been free on bail since his arrest. Still, he was prohibited from leaving India until the legal situation was resolved.

According to his attorney, Samarjit Pattnaik, a court heard Encarnacion's case on Friday and dropped the charges. "All charges against the officer were quashed," he told the Associated Press. Pattnaik added that he will seek the return of Encarnacion's passport next week so he can return to the United States by the week's conclusion.
