Disney Interactive pulled the wool off of its latest update in the Disney Infinity universe.

The wildly popular nemesis to the Skylanders franchise has bumped up to Disney Infinity 2.0. What does that mean? If you've been paying attention this past week, a Twit-slip revealed the inclusion of Marvel Comics characters. That's going to happen but what wasn't revealed until were a few facts surrounding the upcoming sequel.

Disney is making good use of the Marvel Comics catalog.

DI 2.0 will make it’s debut with The Avengers. Hawkeye, Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and the Incredible Hulk will be playable figures. There were talks of Thor’s pain-in-the-ass brother Loki being in the game as well but not as a playable. There will be more characters announced but according to an interrupted video message from Samuel L. Jackson, the world will have to wait until E3 this June.

Fans won’t need to buy anything new besides the game.

Everyone with the firs installment of Disney Infinity will be able to play 2.0 without a problem. Everything will be compatible including Toy Boxes and the base unit. Disney Interactive instantly gained “Good Guy Disney” status for from the press-filled audience for that. Sequels are cool, not having to buy a bunch of extra stuff is even cooler. Starter packs will include the game, Iron Man, Thor and Black Widow figures, the game base, two Toy Box game discs, a Marvel’s The Avengers play set piece and a web code card. That will run a cool $75.

The building tool has also been upgraded.

In addition to the vast outer world that can be created, Disney Infinity 2.0 will support interiors. This works great for the game’s new Dungeon Crawler mode that players can play through. For gamers not into the dungeon stuff, there will also be a tower defense mode. The example we saw was the Hulk defending Thor’s home of Asgard from invading enemies and it looked awesome.

What Disney Interactive and Avalanche Studios are betting on is that Disney Infinity 2.0 will appeal to adults as well as kid gamers. So far, they’re on the right track as they’ve done a great job tapping into the dedication of Marvel fans. Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel Super Heroes will be out for every platform (including PS4 and Xbox One) this fall.
