The age of Instagram and Yelp has also become the age of the foodie. Where it was once impressive to prepare food yourself, it is now apparently impressive to have simply eaten food. What was once considered a basic requirement of human life has become something that we need to celebrate and photograph constantly. Though we (generally) pay the people who prepare our food pretty poorly, we are apparently supposed to applaud loyal customers for having the fortitude to go out to brunch week in and week out. How did you manage to drink all of those mimosas? You are the real hero.

As a handy rule of thumb, it is best only to mention a restaurant you've dined at after the question "Do you know any good places to eat around here?" Otherwise, no one cares.
