Will.i.am has been circling Silicon Valley for the past couple of years, most notably having been given the vague title of Director of Creative Innovation at Intel, whatever that means. But the Black Eyed Pea's most recent tech venture is a smartwatch, which he briefly showed off during an appearance on a British talk show hosted by Alan Carr.

"I started the company myself," Will.i.am told Carr. "I funded it, used my own money to develop it."

From what we can glean so far, the device has a touchscreen display and, unlike other so-called smartwatches, apparently works without needing to be paired with a smartphone. It can reportedly make calls, play music over Bluetooth, and connect to Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. Other details are scarce but Will.i.am mentioned a July release in a tweet.

@chattyman I want to give you my device before it launches in july...
