According to a report from Variety, powerhouse writing and producing partners Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have mutually decided to part ways as a filmmaking team in order to focus on their individual directorial careers. They will continue to work together on the TV front, as they have their hands in a number of popular shows including Sleepy Hollow and Hawaii Five-O.

The duo have collaborated on a number of hit movies, including Mission Impossible III, Star Trek Into Darkness, two of the Transformers movies, and the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2. They actually are charged with developing the next two Spiderman films as well, so it is yet to be determined how they’ll divide up the work for those within their production company K/O Paper Products.

Both guys seem to be quite busy with their own individual projects, so a split does make sense. Orci is currently the favorite to direct Star Trek 3 (which he is also co-writing), and Kurtzman will be directing the Spiderman spinoff Venom.

While it’s always a shame to see a successful duo split, it seems like with this pair we’ll end up getting twice as many high-quality (or at least highly-entertaining) movies going forward.
