Richard Gere—the 64-year-old star of Pretty Woman, Chicago, and countless other movies—was dressed as a homeless man last week while shooting scenes for a new film in New York City. For most New Yorkers, the sight of: 1. a celebrity; and 2. a homeless person would not really have an impact on how they went about their days.
The same does not go for French tourists, apparently.
A kind-hearted woman failed to recognize the actor and offered him her leftover pizza, apparently saying in a mishmash of French and English, “Je suis désolée [I am sorry], but the pizza is cold.” Despite being worth nearly $100 million, Gere accepted the snack and thanked the woman.
Apparently, it was only after a friend saw her picture in the New York Post that the mysterious Frenchwoman was identified. No word on whether Gere has reimbursed her for the pizza. Really, it’s the least he could do.
