An otherwise friendly-looking cat attacked the California family that owns it, sending three members to the hospital.

The cat, a three-and-a-half year-old christened "Khat," suddenly attacked the family at their Roseville, Calif. home on Tuesday night. According to News 10, Khat began clawing at the legs of his owner's 10-year-old brother, then went after his owner's sister and mother.

"The cat ran and jumped on [my brother's] leg and was like, attached to him," the owner revealed to News 10. "He's never been an aggressive cat, he's never been mean, he just flipped."

The Roseville Fire Department eventually arrived, equally shocked by what they saw. Fire Captain Derek Carey called the scenario "an absolute first," adding that Khat was "hissing and going off" when they tried to push him into a cage. They eventually trapped the cat by covering it with a blanket and coaxing it into the cage with a metal pole.

The three family members were treated for superficial wounds at an area hospital.
