NBC Is Turning to Viewers for Sitcom Ideas, Now

NBC has given up on its old model and wants ideas from the fresh faces now.

Next month NBC will begin its nationwide search for a brand new comedy series—and instead of going to agents, production studios, and writers, they're going to the viewers to crowdsource a new show. That's...a new concept, right? Beginning May 1, the NBC Comedy Playground will accept video pitches from aspiring professional comedian hopefuls. The submissions will then go in front of NBC executives, and, if they make it through that initial round, they're put in front of an advisory board that features a huge list of NBC sitcom all stars like Michael Schur, Adam Scott, Aziz Ansari, Eva Longoria, Craig Robinson and Mindy Kaling.

In the end, NBC will select two ideas to become a show that airs on the network, and one that will debut online.

Here are the official FAQs and rules for the competition.
