Authorities say a trio of inmates took a guard hostage at an Ohio prison yesterday afternoon.

According to the New York Daily News, Richard Ware, Kevin Johns and David Martin attacked Joe Lynn as he walked through Trumbull County Jail in Warren, Ohio around 3:15 p.m. yesterday. After threatening Lynn with a shank, they threw him in a cell and tied him up. They then used bed sheets to barricade themselves inside of a pod.

Martin, who is on trial for murder and attempted murder, reportedly called WOIO-TV during the standoff, saying he "[wanted] his story told" and claimed he, Johns and Ware went to such extremes because they had "nothing to lose."

A group of local, state and federal authorities responded to the situation in attempt to negotiate Lynn's release. The captors demanded to be transferred to another jail, and when authorities agreed to facilitate this, they freed Lynn around 9 p.m.

Martin reportedly admitted to killing Jeremy Cole and said he would accept his punishment, even if it was death by lethal injection. Johns was convicted of rape, while Ware awaits trial for armed robbery.

Lynn was reportedly unharmed, and the Daily News adds that it remains unclear if Martin, Johns and Ware will face additional charges for the hostage situation.
