Authorities say the man responsible for killing three people and wounding two others at two separate Kansas Jewish centers the day before Passover has been charged with hate crimes.
Reuters reports that 73-year-old Aurora, Mo. native Frazier Glenn Cross will face both local and federal hate crime charges for killing Dr. William Lewis Corporon, 69, and his 14-year-old grandson Reat Griffin Underwood outside of the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City in Overland Park, Kan. on Sunday afternoon. He then traveled to Village Shalom Retirement Community, where he killed 53-year-old Terri LaManno as she was visiting her mother.
Cross, a former leader of the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and White Patriot Party, was reportedly recognized as one of the country's "more notorious white supremacists" during the 1980s. His actions have been closely monitored by the Southern Poverty Law Center for years, and he's known as a "raging anti-Semite." Cross, who also goes by the name Frazier Glenn Miller, reportedly yelled "Hail Hitler" as he was being arrested.
According to Reuters, Corporon and Underwood were part of a Methodist church, while LaManno was Catholic.
The shootings have prompted several synagogues and other Jewish institutions to take extra security precautions for Passover.
