The X-Men toy chest has no shortage of characters to play with, and with the mutants being one of 20th Century Fox’s big money makers, you can expect each and every single one of those characters to hit the big screen sooner or later. But now that the studio has put out multiple Wolverine and traditional X-Men movies, the producers are looking at more creative ways to exploit Marvel’s merry band of mutants.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, producer Lauren Shuler Donner stated, “There was a regime [at the studio] that didn’t see the worth in [spin-offs], and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and we’re going to do right by it. “ She continued, “I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters.”

We’ve heard those sentiments about Deadpool and Gambit before, but in the same interview, X-Men: First Class writer Simon Kinberg revealed that he’s more interested in seeing a Mystique movie, starring Jennifer Lawrence.

“I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo,” the writer told the site.

Lawrence is nothing but money at the box office, and while it would likely cost Fox plenty to convince her to come back, there is also a good chance the movie would be a huge hit.

Mystique has been the focus of her own solo comic before by writer Brian K. Vaughan, and the results were surprisingly fresh. If X-Men: Days of Future Past is the hit that the studio is hoping for, expect every possible spin-off to be on the table.
