Police are investigating the circumstances that left a body floating in the Gowanus Canal yesterday.
According to the New York Daily News, a man's body was seen near the Union St. Bridge around 3 p.m. Police were forced to use a hoist that was mounted on a truck to lift the body out of the water.
The identity of the victim, described as a black male wearing a blue sweatshirt and grey sweatpants, has not been released.
An autopsy will be conducted by the medical examiner's office to determine the exact cause of death.
