A Bronx man was arrested this week while trying to retrieve a large quantity of heroin that he left inside a rental car, authorities say.

The New York Daily News reports that Carlos Tavarez, 30, left 250 bags ofheroin labeled"Fat Boy" in a rental car. He rented the vehicle in Hell's Kitchen on Sunday for a trek to Boston, returning with $2,500 worth of heroin that was conveniently stashed under the dashboard. Unfortunately for him, he realized that he had left it there after dropping the car off at Newark International Airport on Tuesday.

Tavarez called Budget Rent a Car, saying he had left his "child's medicine" behind, which immediately triggered their suspicions (medicine labeled "Fat Boy"? Really, dog?). They reached out to Port Authority police, who helped arrange a sting operation.

Tavarez was arrested at the airport on Wednesday during a haphazard attempt to obtain the drugs from undercover cops he believed to be Budget employees. He was charged with possession of heroin and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
