It's the end of an era: According to Variety, legendary journalist Barbara Walters has announced that she plans to retire from television next month, and has named May 16—a Friday—as her final appearance on The View and TV altogether.

"In this business there are legends, there are icons, and then there is Barbara Walters," Disney chairman-CEO Bob Iger said in a statement. "She’s a dear friend and colleague as well as someone I deeply admire, and it’s impossible to fully convey her impact and influence on television. She broke barriers, defied convention, made history and set the standard for journalistic excellence for more than 50 years. It’s hard to imagine television without her."

Walters's final appearance on TV will begin with her last episode of The View in the mid-morning, and will conclude with a two-hour primetime special on ABC celebrating her 50-plus year career in television.

We're gonna miss seeing this woman on TV.
