OK, first of all, I know what you're thinking: "Why should I give a shit about plants? Aren't plants for old people? I'm too young and cool to care about stuff like that." Well, touché—I used to be exactly like you. The idea of buying, watering, and caring for another living thing was the furthest thing from my mind until very recently. But after moving from one crappy apartment to the next, I wound keeping a money tree that I had received as a gift. And after it didn't immediately die (a minor micracle), I discovered that I actually liked having it around. Fast forward to now, and I have about five houseplants, each of which adds a lot to my pad. In fact, it's hard to imagine living without them. They improve air quality, make me happier, and generally create a more enjoyable living space. That said, if you're going to invest in a houseplant or two, you might as well get ones that aren't going to croak on you if you forget to water them for a few days. Here are ten greats starter plants that should give some life to pretty much any living situation.
